Why L-theanine May Be The Coolest Thing About Matcha

Oct 15, 2015 · health-wellness · matcha

I mentioned L-theanine in the last post. Now, I bet you’re wondering what’s so special about this "L-Theanine". L-Theanine is a unique amino acid found almost exclusively in the tea plant Camellia Sinensis and is the primary amino acid component of green tea. Matcha's increased L-Theanine content is due to the shading process of the tea plants prior to harvest. One thing L-theanine does is ad to matcha's characteristically pleasant and sweet flavour.

What else does it do? L-theanine stimulates the production of alpha waves in the brain. Alpha waves provide us with an incredible ability to focus and concentrate while maintaining a calm alertness. This clarity of mind helps us power through work related tasks. Basically, it helps get things done! If this wasn’t amazing enough L-Theanine is clinically shown to reduces stress levels, blood pressure and PMS symptoms as well as improve cognitive abilities - boosting memory and learning. Scientific research also shows L-Theanine to have anti-convulsive properties to aid in seizures, improved attention in ADHD patients, promoted cardio vascular health and even possibly longevity. WOW.
